Andy Warhol declared that everything we could know about him was on the surface and that there was nothing else; at the same time Deleuze claimed that there is no greater depth than the surface, when speaking at the University of Paris in 1976, in a series of classes, which Santiago Auserón, as he recalls in conversation with Emili Manzano, listened to carefully and then explained to, among others, José Luis Brea. Classes very close in time and space to those of Lacan speaking of the obstacle of the tie; meanwhile Valie Export is ejected by a filmmaker for not showing her breasts; Wendy Williams is hit and detained by the police for exposing herself; Cicciolina allows herself to be touched in order to get votes for peace; Marina Abramovic allows herself to be cut and hit in Naples and Lady Gaga, completely excited by the former, remembers her explanations… And there’s more: Tomislav Gotovac also appears naked in the streets of Belgrade and later in Zagreb during the Balkans war with Alexandar and Ivana; Femen girls being attacked and attacking; Guy Debord; Buñuel’s Adelina in Viridiana raising her skirts ... All of them go through "La balada de Wendy entre d’autres, cielo preview, visual mode”

"La balada de Wendy entre d’autres, cielo preview, visual mode" starts from a text: the first chapter of the non-fiction novel "Cielo" by David G. Torres (Turner Bros will publish it after summer). Hence, the clarification "preview" because it concerns a preliminary or a first part of a wider text. In addition, the project’s title in ADN Platform clarifies that it deals with a visual version: the translation of the story into visual and exhibition format. So this is not a conventional curated exhibition based on a selection of artists around an idea. If a curated exhibition is an exercise in ventriloquism where the curator speaks through the artists, in “La balada de Wendy…” the exercise consists of the opposite: the artists are the ones who speak on behalf of the curator. Thus, the project comes to subvert the blurred idea of the curator and insists on its authorship at the same as it proposes a collaborative work close to the structures of the cinema or theater. In fact, the presentation of “La balada de Wendy…” follows a cinematographic structure: Eduard Arbós has created the story-board and a casting on a mural that brings together the relationships between characters and situations; Joan Morey has developed diverse scenes that end up by shaping a trailer of the text itself; Maria Pratts has taken care of the promotional poster; ADN Platform is the producer; and David G. Torres, as the author of the original text, assumes the role of director and screenwriter.

Taking together as an expository narrative, text, collaborative or preliminary project and as the presentation of a film project, “La balada de Wendy…” is a kaleidoscopic and syncopated story in which situations and characters bump into each other. In that way: it shares methods with deeply contemporary ways of writing and creating, made out from quotation, cutting and pasting, sampling...; it engages with non-imaginative and non-creative writing forms; it takes the curatorial as a crippled, incapable, vicarious practice that speaks through the mouths of others; and reflects on the exhibition as a collaborative structure that is close to a film production.

“La balada de Wendy entre d’autres” is ultimately the beginning of a text, a story and a book, "Cielo", through which a profile is traced of certain attitudes and an era characterized by a visible commitment to the pure naked surface, hence the sexual and violent burden of this ballad.
